Date
Table Guide
The following list should be used to establish
the date of manufacture of Hardy rods. It should be noted that
most of the early numbers can be considered as approximate dates
as some numbers cannot be traced.
As general information, rods manufactured prior
to 1966 should carry individual identification numbers (i.d.)
stamped on the reel fitting, or butt cap. Rods manufactured post
1966 will usually carry a simple letter coding inscribed in ink
above the cork handle (month/year). As a special note, cane rods
manufactured between 1966-1981 may carry either, or both, of
these identification numbers.
Individual numbering in the form of a letter and
number inscription above the handle was re-introduced in 1981.
Anomalies within the above system include: G
prefixed numbers to denote a composite rod - for instance, whole
cane I split bamboo, and NE prefixed numbers to denote Mitre
Hardy and Neocane rods made between 1963-1967. Both G and NE
rods are difficult to date to a specific year.
1966 - 1980 - No Individual Registration
